Day 3

Fox and Coyote

Thanksgiving Day

Fox and Coyote – a song about a fox, a coyote, and a sparrow

Fox went out with his brother coyote

They walked out upon the fields

Just before the morning would break

They knew where all the little birds go

They knew where all the little birds go

They had acquired a little steel trap

They set the bait and they pulled it back

Dreaming of a mid-morning snack

In the bushes waiting for the snap

Undercover, waiting to hear the trap go snap

They caught themselves a little sparrow

Not much more than a coyote mouthful

But whose teeth would get to taste

That single bite of sparrow meat

Which brother would get to eat

Old fox, he grabbed a wing

Coyote did the very same thing

Pulled that bird wing from wing

Before the wishbone snapped, she did sing

As her wishbone snapped, she did sing

Old fox and your brother coyote

You got me but before I go

I know how you are both gonna die

You’re gonna die choking on an old sparrow bone

You’re gonna die chocking on a little sparrow bone

Old black crow circling all around

Checking out what is on the ground

Bleached out white by the sun

It’s what’s left of fox and his brother coyote

Old dead fox and his brother coyote

Greedy fox and greedy coyote

Eat your veggies you old fox and coyote

Thanksgiving Day – a song about Jesus Christ having an American Thanksgiving

Jesus had a Thanksgiving too

You can read about it in the Bible

He had his twelve closest friends there

They were sitting there beside him

He sliced the bread and he poured the wine

He said, sorry boys but tomorrow I’m gonna die

They said, yeah right Jesus, yeah right, you ain’t going nowhere

Sure enough, they got up the next day and found out its all over

Maybe things haven’t gone the way you’d hoped for lately

Just hasn’t been the year you’d planned

Thanksgiving day

Football on the tv, got a turkey in the oven

Think I’ll have a little slice of pie for desert

Thanksgiving day

Save a seat for Grandma

She would have loved to have been here

But we lost her earlier this year

Thanksgiving day

Everybody join hands now, its time to give thanks

Time to count your blessings and name your losses

Thanksgiving day

Thanksgiving day

Jesus liked to eat with crooks

He said drunks make better company

Than all them stiff religious folks

Filled with their pride and piety

People got mad and said hey man, hey man, hey man

Why are you eating with all them losers and bums

He said, I was hungry did you give me something to eat

When I was thirsty did you give me something to drink

He said, no man, I’m sitting here with the people that love me

And I don’t care what you all think

Think I’ll have a little slice of pie for desert
