Signs of the Time

Going across town on the 8th street bridge
Passing that old railroad yard
Noses to tails, they are lining up
As far as I can see here, it’s rusty old trains
As far as I can see here, it’s rusty old trains

Rusty old trains and burned out cars
Vacant store fronts down on the boulevard
Busted out windows down at the old churchyard
It’s the sign of the time
The face of our demise
It’s the sign of the time

My old grandma used to hang her laundry out
Hanging it all out for the whole world to see
Grandaddy’s underwear said made in the USA
Now we’re too embarrassed to hang our fat clothes out
We’re too embarrassed to hang our dirty clothes out

Rusty old trains and burned out cars
Vacant storefronts down on the boulevard
Busted out windows down at the old church yard
It’s the sign of the time
The face of our demise
The sign of the time

Everyone I know is in a great big hurry
The faster you go here the quicker you’ll get there
The end of the road is the same here for everyone
I’m going to take my time here and look at the scenery
I’m gonna take my time here and look at the scenery

Rusty old trains and burned out cars
Vacant storefronts down on the boulevard
Busted out windows down at the old church yard
It’s the sign of the time
The face of our demise
The sign of the time
